Tie One On for Safety This Season With MADD

Statistics state that 1 out of 3 Americans will be involved in a car accident at one point in their lives.

The MADD Tie One On For Safety campaign is an initiative which started in 1986 as the organization’s premiere event looking to improve safety on our roads.

The Tie One On For Safety campaign urges drivers to tie MADD ribbons to key chains and car antennas as well as display a red ribbon decal on their cars to remind them to always have a designated driver whenever they go out drinking. Sign up to get your free ribbon!

Drunk driving has been shown to put drivers, car occupants and other road users at risk exponentially. Here are some startling statistics:

  1. About 2 people die in America on a daily basis due to drunk driving crashes.
  2. On average, drunk drivers will have driven drunk more than 80 times before their first arrest.
  3. Drunk driving costs the country $119 billion every year.
  4. More than 29 million people admitted to driving drunk in 2012 alone, a number that’s larger than the total population of Texas.
  5. Drivers aged 21 to 24 led the pack when it came to the number of fatalities as a result of drunk driving.

If you’re looking to set out on the road this holiday season, here are a few things you can do to keep yourself and others safe:

  • Always have a designated driver if you’re planning to have a couple of drinks.
  • If you do drink alcohol, be smart about it. Call a cab or use a rideshare app like Uber.
  • Obey every traffic law without fail.
  • Check to see that your vehicle is in great working order. At the same time, check that your license is valid and that you have up-to-date mva title registration.
  • Do not use your cellphone and don’t be tempted to keep changing radio stations; this will distract you from the task at hand – driving.

If you or a loved one has been injured due to a drunk driver’s negligent actions, you may have been told by their insurance company that they don’t cover “illegal acts” including drunk driving. DON’T LET THEM FOOL YOU. We know all their tricks. Have an attorney evaluate your case before making any decisions. Rasansky Law Firm will evaluate your case for free over the phone when you call 1-877-659-1620.

Drinking establishments such as bars, clubs, and restaurants also need to follow the rules laid out by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC). Did you know that Texas’ dram shop laws may hold bars and similar establishments liable for their portion of a drunk driving accident? Follow this link to read more on Texas’ dram shop law.
