Day Care Owner Found Guilty in Death of 6-year old

According to the Associated Press, a jury has found a former McMinnville, Tenn. day care owner guilty of first-degree murder in the death of a 6-year-old and the abuse of her two older brothers. On Tuesday, March 4, the jury recommended a life sentence for 41-year-old Sherri Mathis, with sentencing scheduled for April 23.

The jury found guilty verdicts on nine criminal counts, including two charges of first-degree murder by aggravated child abuse and neglect. Mathis was also found guilty on charges of aggravated child abuse for beating and choking the child and her brothers.

Man Receives 5-Year Sentence for Abuse at Day Care

52-year old Jefferson Bell of Gansevoort, NY will serve five years in prison and be registered as a sex offender after pleading guilty in a day care sex abuse case. A friend of the uncertified daycare provider, Bell was arrested for inappropriately touching a 5-year-old boy in 2005. Further investigation of potential criminal wrongdoing by the provider is expected, as well as potential civil litigation.

Infant Dies in Dallas Area Daycare

A 3-month-old baby was found dead at a Dallas area home-based daycare Wednesday afternoon. The baby was discovered around 4 p.m. at a home-based daycare in Farmers Branch, Texas. The daycare worker who found the infant called 911. Paramedics rushed the infant from the daycare to RHD Medical Center, where the baby was pronounced dead.

The cause of death has not been determined yet, but police say there was no visible indication of trauma. Daycare abuse has not yet been ruled out.

Daycare Sexual Abuse investigation Taken over by the State

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is now investigating a possible sexual abuse case involving a Killeen daycare center and a 4-month-old baby.

Family members of the baby protested Monday in front of the Little Blessings Daycare.

Doctors at Darnall Army Medical Center said last Wednesday the baby girl had bruising consistent with a sexual assault.

Killeen police said a daycare employee is a suspect, but administrators at the daycare deny any allegations of abuse.

Police in Killeen , Texas are looking into a possible daycare sexual abuse case involving a 4-month-old baby.

When the 4-month-old was picked up from the Little Blessings Daycare last Wednesday, she was told that her daughter had a diaper rash. After an examination, her doctor suspected sexual abuse based on bruising that typically indicates such.

Dallas Child Left in Daycare Van

Police are investigating Braswell Child Development School after they had left a child in a daycare van for about an hour before realizing he was in the daycare van. The Dallas child was picked up in the daycare van and apparently fell asleep on the ride to the daycare. When the van arrived at the daycare, no one noticed he was left behind in the van.

Day Care Owner Sent to Trial for Death of 4-Month Old

In yet another tragic case of day care abuse, 4-month old Lincoln Wilbur passed away in September 2007. While no verdict will bring back the innocent life, there may be some justice for this incident. As a result of expert testimony in a preliminary hearing March 12, Wisconsin home day care owner Jennifer Hancock will stand trial on one count of first degree reckless homicide and one count of child abuse.

After reporting to her grandmother that her 50-year-old day care teacher Curtis Allen Rapp tickled her both above and underneath her clothing three separate times, the teacher was placed on leave and then arrested on two counts of first-degree child molestation.

2-year-old dies after being bound with tape in day care

On May 19, 2007 a Tulsa, Oklahoma day care worker was being held without bail Saturday in the death of a 2-year-old boy whose hands were bound and his mouth covered with masking tape, police said. The boy, who had been on life support, died on May 24th.

Vicki Leigh Chiles was being held on a charges of first-degree murder and child abuse. She was the only worker at the facility at the time, caring for eight children.

Chiles told police the boy would not be quiet for nap time, so she used tape to silence him, an arrest report states.
