Bus Crash in Sherman Kills 13, Several Others Critically Injured

13 people are confirmed dead and several others are wounded after a charter bus careened off the side of highway 75 near Sherman. The accident happened at around 12:45 a.m. this morning. The cause of the bus crash is unknown, although a tire was found detached from the bus nearby. Officials believe the bus may have blown a tire and then lost control. It’s unclear if weather played a part in the accident. There were reports of light rain in the area at around 12:00 a.m.

Several people were rushed off to Sherman and Dallas hospitals via helicopter and ambulances. A spokesman from Parkland Memorial Hospital said four people are in critical condition.

“I’ll tell you, there were very few walking wounded,” said Sherman fire chief Jeff Jones.

The bus was apparently carrying members of the Vietnamese Martyrs Church of Houston who were on their way to a religious festival in Carthage, MO. There were at least four translators there to help at the crash site.
