More than 290 people from 39 states have become ill in the food poisoning outbreak between August '06 and April '07, and 46 have been hospitalized, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.
The recall began with specific lots of Peter Pan and Great Value Peanut Butter, but have grown to include many foods that contain peanut butter.
Hospital Mistakes Cause Millions of Injuries and Billions of Dollars
A recent study found that nearly three percent of hospital stays include a mistake made by the hospital that causes serious illness or even death. The study suggests about 25% of these mistakes result in death.
About 1.3 million preventable mistakes were made over a three year study estimated to cost over 8 billion dollars.
