Cops Held a Talent Show to Support Cerebral Palsy in 1953

The Schenectady firefighters had a grand old time knocking balls out of the park and rounding the bases. It was 1953 and the firefighters had put together a game to raise money for cerebral palsy. Both the fire and police teams were competing at the Schenectady Stadium, while 2,500 people watched the drama and comedy unfold.

Laughs were in abundance. People may have thought movie stars like Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell were on the field, but the truth was the "ladies" were actually dolled-up members of the Police Department.

Day Care Owner Found Guilty in Death of 6-year old

According to the Associated Press, a jury has found a former McMinnville, Tenn. day care owner guilty of first-degree murder in the death of a 6-year-old and the abuse of her two older brothers. On Tuesday, March 4, the jury recommended a life sentence for 41-year-old Sherri Mathis, with sentencing scheduled for April 23.

The jury found guilty verdicts on nine criminal counts, including two charges of first-degree murder by aggravated child abuse and neglect. Mathis was also found guilty on charges of aggravated child abuse for beating and choking the child and her brothers.

Sleep Apnea Treatment Device Recalled s8 Flow Generator

ResMed and FDA notified consumers and healthcare professionals of a worldwide recall of approximately 300,000 S8 flow generators (Continuous Positive Air Pressure or CPAP) used for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. In Model S8 devices manufactured between July 2004 and May 15, 2006, there is a potential for a short circuit in the power supply connector. ResMed plans to work with its distribution partners globally to provide a replacement device to patients who have an affected S8 flow generator. Man Receives 5-Year Sentence for Abuse at Day Care

52-year old Jefferson Bell of Gansevoort, NY will serve five years in prison and be registered as a sex offender after pleading guilty in a day care sex abuse case. A friend of the uncertified daycare provider, Bell was arrested for inappropriately touching a 5-year-old boy in 2005. Further investigation of potential criminal wrongdoing by the provider is expected, as well as potential civil litigation.

Arsenic Found in North Texas Parks

WFAA has conducted an investigation that has found arsenic in picnic tables around north Texas. Arsenic is a chemical known to cause cancer and other heath problems. It was used for over 30 years to preserve wood. Although consumers can no longer purchase wood treated with arsenic, there still remains old wood in use throughout the Metroplex.

This creates a particular problem for children, who tend to put their fingers and hands in their mouths. This means that the arsenic can end up in their digestive track.

Victoria's Secret Bras May Contain Formaldehyde

A North Texas woman is one of several who have stepped forward to say that Victoria's Secret bras are causing irritating rashes. Recently, an Ohio woman filed a class action lawsuit after tests on her Angels Secret Embrace and Very Sexy Extreme push up bras were revealed to contain formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a chemical commonly used in embalming.

Rock 'N Ride Rocker Recall

A local toy-maker has recalled about 122,000 units of the Rock 'N Ride plush rocker because of potential injuries to children. The Southlake-based company has received 35 reports of the rocker tipping over, with 10 such incidents resulting in injuries like bumps, bruised and lacerations. The culprint? A faulty plastic base that could make the rockers unstable.

Toys -R- Us Recalling 27,000 Wooden Coloring Cases Due to Lead Poisoning Risk

Toys -R- Us is recalling thousands of art kits made in China. The packaging and paint contain dangerously high lead levels. The Imaginarium Wooden Coloring Cases were sold by Toys -R- Us stores nationwide since October 2006.

These 27,000 Imaginarium Wooden Coloring Cases are the latest to a long string of childrens' toys to be recalled due to lead poisoning risks. recently Mattel recalled millions of toys due to high levels of lead in the paint.
