What is the Most Dangerous Highway in Dallas/Ft Worth?

Dallas-Fort Worth is considered one of the largest metropolitan areas in the entire United States. Wikipedia states that Dallas-Fort Worth is the busiest airport in Texas and the third busiest airport in the entire world with 685,491 aircraft movements, verified by the Airports Council International. The airport also has the ninth busiest international gateway in the U.S.

However, traffic alone doesn’t make a road the most dangerous DFW highwayMSNBC states that Interstate 30 is statistically one of the most dangerous DFW highways. This road cuts right through town and separates many low cost hotels and apartments from commercial and grocery stories. In order for a resident to reach his destination, he would have to run across 10 lanes of traffic going with vehicles going over 60 miles an hour. Thirty-three pedestrians have been killed in the last five years from this road alone.

Meanwhile, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reported that that the Southwest Parkway Toll Road and a series of Grapevine freeways (called the DFW Connector) were so unsafe to drive that they were worth $143 million and $1 billion dollars, respectively, in reconstruction money.

The 33 TV Channel News reports that I-635-LBJ in North Dallas has become a danger for vehicle accidents because of barely visible stripes and missing road reflectors. TxDot renewed a $20 million dollar contract to authorize the repairs, which will finish this month. The 33 also ran a story warning motorists that the 2009 holiday season will be very congested. “AAA predicts 2.25 million Texans will travel at least 50 miles, that’s up six percent from last year.” One reason why traffic will be heavier is because of reduced gas prices.

Other freeways in DFW brought up for a discussion on most car crash on a North Texas highway include:

·        I-75 (Central Expressway)
·        I-20
·        I-30 (R.L. Thornton Freeway)
·        I-35 (Stemmons Freeway)
·        Loop 12 (Northwest Highway)
·        The George Bush Freeway
·        Beltline
·        Midway
·        Highways 360 & 183 (Airport Freeway)
·        And the intersection of Park and Preston
