Houston police are looking into a fatal car accident on a Southwest Freeway this morning. Police stated that a man was southbound in a Chevrolet Impala traveling at a high speed when he reached the 7200 block of the freeway's service road at around 4:05 a.m. and lost control of his car.

Sgt. D. Arnold with the department's vehicular crimes division said the car struck a tree next to the sidewalk near a mall and then erupted into flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is still pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.

In other news, two people were killed in an accident on U.S. 90 near Vinton, LA. Police say the driver was a 15-year-old girl who ran her car into a ditch after trying to overcorrect in the eastbound lane. Her car struck several trees before it came to a rest.

Sadly, two passengers from Orange, Texas died at the scene of the accident. The driver and two other passengers were rushed to hospitals with serious injuries from the car accident.
