Prescription Drugs are Given Over 25% More than Five Years Ago

More and more possibly unnecessary drugs are prescribed, but ironically much needed medications, such as Herceptin for breast cancer, have been denied to patients because of costs. Health experts say the rise in prescription numbers is due in part to medical advances, and that prescribing practices should be reviewed and scrutinized.

Five years ago doctors wrote 64 prescriptions a day (average), this has risen to 81 today.
