How to Get Car Crash Reports & Accident Records in TX

How to Get Car Crash Reports & Accident Records in TX

For liability purposes, it’s often necessary to obtain the official police report of your accident.  For some drivers, this is the first time you’ve even thought about an accident report. Others just may not know the procedure in the State of Texas. Either way, we'll explain the process on this page.

If Your Accident Happened in Dallas, Texas

If your accident happened in Dallas, you MAY be able to find the police report (not the official accident report) online. Not all accidents are going to be found here, but most all of the accidents which involve a crime (DWI, etc), will. Use the following website to search for your digital police report: http://policereports.dallaspolice.net – but again, this is not an official report. In large cities such as Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin or San Antonio, you will likely have to visit the police department in person to request an official accident report.

If Your Accident Happened Anywhere Else in Texas

For all other police departments, use the following website: http://policereports.us/department_display.php?state=TX.

If you’ve been injured in an accident and are in need of your police report, your attorney can attain it for you the second it is available. Since car accident attorneys are hired on a contingency fee agreement, this means your attorney will likely do this without charging you.  Your attorney can also explain to you what the report means (what the codes mean, translating legalese, etc), as well as help dispute any incorrect information filed on the report itself.
