26 Nov Daycare Owner Faces Life Over Death of Child
A daycare owner could face life imprisonment over the felony murder of a child that occurred at her home daycare facility. As reported by Enid News, prosecutors in the trial say that a fire broke out in February of 2011 at her home daycare when the woman went to the store. She had left a pan of oil on the stove and the stove was turned on, eventually causing a fire. The children involved were from 16 months old to three years old. She pled guilty to a charge of felony murder in the death of one of the children.
Unknown Background
It came to light during the trial that the daycare owner had already pled guilty as a juvenile to a charge of arson. According to a former director of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, the daycare owner would've never been licensed to operate a daycare if the agency had known as much. Even though the agency does do a background check on applicants, the information about the arson charge was not revealed.
The murder charge was leveled over the death of the 16-month-old child. According to the daycare owner's attorneys, she had attempted to save them and did not mean to hurt any children, but she did plead guilty, nonetheless.
