Be Wary of Alternative Health Scams

Be Wary of Alternative Health Scams

Legitimate doctors are sometimes not the most pleasant people to deal with. They have to maintain what’s called clinical detachment with their patients, which is what allows them to sometimes perform very painful procedures that may be necessary to save your life. They have to do this without flinching or becoming overwhelmed with sympathy so that they maintain a logical, scientific mindset and give you the best healthcare possible.

When doctors do this, some people mistake it for being completely uncaring about patients. The alternative health industry has picked up on this and offers treatments that are kinder, gentler and, according to most research, completely ineffective for anything except making the alternative healthcare practitioners wealthy. Here are some tips you can use to make sure you’re getting real, effective medical care.

Watch Out for Conspiracy Theories

The secrets doctors don’t want you to know! Doctors might seem brusque sometimes, but they spend most of their time trying to prevent people from dying and trying to keep them in good health. If there were a secret medication out there that could help people, physicians would certainly want to use it for their patients. This type of advertising is just designed to entice, not to inform, and it’s usually completely dishonest.

Miracle Cures

Think about what alternative healthcare businesses are really saying when they claim that they have the miracle cure for one disease or another. If it were true and some obscure treatment could cure cancer, heart disease or some other deadly condition, that would change the world. It would be all over the news and it would be all over peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals. It never seems to turn out that way, however, because these cures are simply frauds.

Celebrity Endorsements

Celebrities are not physicians—though a few may be—and they are not, for the most part, scientists. When you see how incredibly young and healthy a celebrity pitching a supplement or other alternative health product looks, remember that the celebrity likely has enough money to access the best real medical care in the world, as well, and that probably has a lot more to do with their youthful appearance and vigor than anything else.

Doctors Do Make Mistakes

Even though they may work in a legitimate field and have very extensive training, real doctors do sometimes make mistakes. If a physician was negligent and brought you to harm, consider talking to Texas medical malpractice attorneys about the matter.
