Aspiring Rapper Killed While Driving and Texting, Drunk

A 21-year-old aspiring rapper was killed over Labor Day in Ontario, according to reports in Time magazine. As the article points out, the death marks the second time that a story about somebody texting while driving has ended up with someone nearly or actually getting killed. In both cases, there is a bit of very sad irony involved. The first driver, from Texas, had texted that he was putting himself in danger by texting and driving before he drove off of a cliff. In this case, the texts were much more explicit about what was going on.

Drunk and Texting

Police have not firmly established that the driver of the vehicle was the same person texting, and they have not established that alcohol was necessarily a factor in the accident, though the texts did claim both. The texts use the shorthand term "YOLO", which stands for "you only live once". They also claim that the driver was drunk and going 120 miles an hour while drifting corners. Drifting, in this context, refers to taking corners at a speed and in a way that causes the car to drift across the road.

In total, five people died in a crash resulting from whomever was driving the vehicle driving through a red light and crashing into a wall. The story, of course, is tragic but, part of the tragedy comes from the fact that it is far too common in terms of how it happened and its consequences.

Drunk and Distracted

Drunk driving and distracted driving are both major problems on the Texas roads and everywhere else. In fact, there have been numerous reports in the media and put out by various safety organizations that distracted driving is becoming an even bigger problem than it is already. People text messaging, e-mailing, taking phone calls, surfing the Internet and doing other activities behind the wheel are not paying attention to the road and put everybody on the road at risk, including themselves.

If you need car accident litigation help because somebody who was distracted, drunk or both ended up causing you to become involved in a crash or caused an accident in which you lost somebody, contact a personal injury attorney about the matter. They can handle these cases and they are more than familiar with the many dangers that manifest when somebody is not paying attention or when they are drunk behind the wheel.
