2 Killed in Grand Prairie Crash

Two people lost their lives in a car crash that resulted in a fire in Grand Prairie. An article in DFW CBS referenced the police report of the accident, which revealed that the drivers of the vehicle had come into a construction zone travelling at a high speed. Their vehicle swerved and ended up hitting two other vehicles before hitting a cement wall and bursting into flames. Both people in the vehicle died at the scene.

Travelling at a high rate of speed is dangerous enough but, with spring on its way, it’s going to be more common to see construction zones on the highways and freeways. These areas merit some particular care on the part of drivers.

The Speed Limits

The speed limits in construction zones are there for many different reasons. First and foremost, when workers are out on the site, it keeps them safer by reducing the speed of the traffic passing by. Even though these speed limits may seem slow, you can get an idea of how fast a car travelling even 35mph or slower is going by standing on a sidewalk by a busy road. Imagine doing so on the freeway when cars are going by at 50mph or higher and you’ll have an idea of how dangerous highway work really is.

The other reasons have to do with the safety of the drivers. Construction zones, particularly at night, can be tricky to navigate. The lines on the road may not relate at all to the path that drivers need to take to get through the zone, which can cause confusion and accidents. Quite frequently, the roads in construction zones are much narrower than they are normally, and that means that hitting a wall or other barrier is a much greater threat than normal.

Of course, there’s also the chance that a sudden curve or other feature will chance the route that people need to take through the construction zone. Hitting fixed objects while over cornering is one of the leading causes of death on the highways, so it’s a good idea to pay attention to the speed limits in construction zones, as you have no way of knowing what you’re driving into until you actually get into the area being worked on.

If you’ve been injured due to someone driving recklessly in a construction zone, consider contacting a vehicle accident lawyer about filing a lawsuit.
