Is Singulair linked to suicide? The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating reports of mood changes, suicidal behavior and even suicide in patients who have taken the popular, best-selling Merck drug. While Merck has recently updated Singulair's side effect list to include tremors, anxiousness, depression and suicidal behavior, the FDA wants a more in-depth data analysis of the possible suicide link.
Merck's top-selling product in 2007, Singulair brought in sales of $4.3 billion and is used by millions. According to a CNNMoney.com Article, Merck officials say there have been no suicides among the 11,000 patients enrolled in trials of Singulair.
It may be nine months before the research agency comes to any conclusion.
