Sometimes Employers Stonewall About Workplace Injuries

If you were hurt in the workplace and you’re facing a situation where your employer refuses to knowledge that you are hurt or refuses to knowledge that they are responsible for your injuries, you are in a situation that is all too common. Some employers will try to shirk their responsibilities to their employees by not adhering to proper reporting requirements for workplace injuries, by not paying compensation when it is due and by trying to harass, cajole or even bully an employee into not saying anything about an injury that they suffered.

Two people lost their lives in a car crash that resulted in a fire in Grand Prairie. An article in DFW CBS referenced the police report of the accident, which revealed that the drivers of the vehicle had come into a construction zone travelling at a high speed. Their vehicle swerved and ended up hitting two other vehicles before hitting a cement wall and bursting into flames. Both people in the vehicle died at the scene.

Travelling at a high rate of speed is dangerous enough but, with spring on its way, it’s going to be more common to see construction zones on the highways and freeways. These areas merit some particular care on the part of drivers.

The Spring area Walmart has been sued by a woman who claims that she was injured because of negligence. The lawsuit alleges that, on August 22, 2010, the woman suffered a slip and fall while she was shopping, according to reporting in Ultimate Spring.

What the woman slipped on is not specified in the lawsuit. The lawsuit, however, alleges that the slip and fall could've been completely prevented it the floor had been cleaned or if shoppers have been warned.

A wet floor with no sign can present a serious hazard to anybody in a retail establishment or any other type of establishment. In fact, if people are warned about the hazards presented to them by a wet floor, it's very easy to not even notice that the floor is slippery and to walk on the surface, risking injury or worse. Slip and fall accidents can be deadly to people, particularly people who are older and who may not be in good condition physically.

Social security is there to make sure that, if the worst happens, all of us have some way of surviving. Stairways and ramps are other obvious danger areas. In wet weather, be particularly cautious. In the winter, remember that a layer of snow can easily cover a layer of ice and that you may find yourself tumbling down the stairs or ramp without expecting any trouble at all. Always use the railing to steady yourself on these areas. It’s much better to assume that it is slippery and to avoid an accident than it is to assume the surface is safe and to get hurt unexpectedly.

Nearly half of the claims for medical malpractice filed every year involve a failure to diagnose a condition. For the casual observer, this may seem a bit unfair. After all, there are plenty of diseases and disorders that can easily be overlooked. The law accounts for this and there are certainly cases where even the best doctor in the world wouldn’t have seen the signs of a specific illness. However, when patients present with symptoms that should tip off any competent doctor to the fact that there’s a problem, suing is sometimes the best option.

A failure to diagnose a serious medical issue can have serious, even deadly, repercussions. Cancer that is missed may elevate in stages between visits and become a terminal disease. Diseases such as diabetes need to be addressed immediately after they’re discovered and, if they aren’t, the patient may suffer a lot more misery than they would if their condition was properly addressed. These cases oftentimes end up affecting the health of the patient involved, of course, and they sometimes also cause significant financial damages to the patient.

"A $97 million lawsuit has been filed against Phi Beta Sigma fraternity for the death of a college student from Dallas.

When most people think of car accidents they think of one car colliding with another in some fashion. Pedestrian accidents, where a vehicle runs into a person on foot, rarely come to mind. Amazingly, 11 percent of fatalities caused by motor vehicles involve pedestrians.

This week Donald Creed, a 76-year old man from Missouri, was charged with 10 misdemeanor counts of negligent homicide for a maximum of 10 years jail time for crashing his tractor trailer into stopped traffic on an Oklahoma turnpike. The crash happened last June. Out of the 10 killed, three were from Frisco and one was from Denton. Authorities say this was the deadliest crash in Oklahoma history. Click here for the full story.
